Joker (Batman)
The Joker is a fictional character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in the comic-book Batman # 1 in 1940. It is the main enemy of Batman.
Creation of character
Although Bob Kane was appropriate paternity Joker, it seems more likely that his acolyte Bill Finger is the real creator of the character. The film The Man Who Laughs would have inspired the artist, wishing to oppose an opponent high colour Batman.
Origins
Several scenarios have recounted the genesis of character, but not necessarily in a consistent manner. At the end of 50 years, a malfrat named Red Hood appears in Detective Comics # 168. It can be assumed that this is the first real appearance of the person who will become the Joker, but it should be noted that several people have borrowed this identity. The Joker appear under his clown appearance in Batman No. 1.
However, it seems certain that the night of drama founder giving birth to the Joker took place in a waste treatment plant chemicals called Axis Chemicals. Survivors just a dive in a toxic bath, Red Hood sank into madness furious to discover his new physical appearance, and swore he would make the world so that désaxé him.
In the version of Alan Moore (The Killing Joke), Red Hood is nothing other than a failed comedian whose only concern was to support his pregnant wife. Without choice, he agreed to rob a factory of toxic waste and crossed a point of no return to crime after the death of his wife. The accident finally realized its loss of reason and its entry into the world of crime. It should be noted that this story is told from the viewpoint of the Joker, and that his vision of things can be altered (The man himself admits that he remembers so many versions of his past that no longer knows discern the true). As such, The Killing Joke can be considered as part of elseworlds Batman. However, insofar as Alan Moore was the first writer to recount the exact origin of the Joker, one can also consider it as "official".
Physical and psychological
The chemical seeped into the body of Red Hood has caused irreversible physical changes, but also affect his psychological state. Her skin is now white as chalk and his hair is green. It also boasts a wide smile, but it seems that it is voluntary because the Joker did not display at all times. It should be noted that in the comic book: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, the color scarlet lips Joker is due to the use of a lipstick, whereas in most other comics (including The Killing Joke) It is a consequence of his bath of acid.
Methods
Although it is difficult to determine if the changeover in the madness was caused by a phenomenon organic or by the psychological shock caused by the accident, Red Hood adopted an exuberant behaviour and borrowed the nickname Joker given by the media .
The Joker has a particular taste for the macabre jokes. His first coup was to shine poison water supplies of Gotham City. Chemical weapons have no secret for him and he wears a permanently several kinds of acids and the venom of Joker, a compound binary being literally dying of laughter to those it infects their paralysing facial with a rictus-like hers.
The purpose of the Joker is to make fool his enemies so that the world looks to him. For that, he did not hesitate in killing Jason Todd, the second Robin, with a bomb (A mourning in the family) to kidnap Jim Gordon, paralyse his daughter (Barbara Gordon, former Batgirl, become Oracle) to life before the strip and the photograph to make her crazy father (cf. The Killing Joke) and kill Sarah Gordon Essen, the wife of the Commissioner, by threatening to execute newborns if it resists (see Batman: No Man's Land). Although it is not explicitly stated, it is suggested that Barbara Gordon had also been raped by the Joker and his men.
Emotional life
The Joker is assisted since the mid-1990 by Harley Quinn (first appearance in the animated series Batman, the animated series). Former psychiatrist of Arkham fell crazy in love with the Joker, it helps frequently to escape from the Arkham asylum. A love relationship one way unites the two characters.
Alliances
The Joker has sometimes worked in agreement with the enemies of Batman, and even with gangsters in the Marvel Universe (Jigsaw).
Recently, The Sphinx has concluded a contract with the Joker: the latter must release him from prison and protect Silence, a psychopathic killer. It must, in return, to deliver the name of the assassin of his wife, Jeanine.
However, its notorious instability alienates him the confidence of potential allies: thus, it is not invited to join the League of Super-villains formed by Alexander Luthor III (that rejection will lead elsewhere in the assassination of the latter by the Joker.)
It is also entered into conflict with Lex Luthor on several occasions, including during the presidency of Luthor, and then during Operation Salvation Run, in which history Luthor and the Joker lead each clan of super-villains with the objectives opposed.
Futures likely
The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller recounts a future hypothetical Batman and Joker. The work is centered around a key question: Joker suffer it the need to continue his criminal activity if Batman did not exist? His answer is clearly 'no', because here Batman has withdrawn from its role as a vigilante and Joker remains in a catatonic state in the Arkham asylum. But the return of vigilante will cause the Joker to escape the need to deal with again, which means that its actions have for him reason to be in conflict with those of Batman, as a double negative (typical idea of comics, relayed in the film Unbreakable).
This ambiguous relationship of interdependence is pushed far enough by Miller, because both men live alone and complete their confrontation with a deadly embrace during which the Joker Batman calls "my angel".
Powers and weapons
The weapon of choice Joker is the toxic substance that he invented and which bears his name: "The Joker venom." This substance causes anaphylactic shock due to the blockage of canneaux calcium and potassium. The effect is visible a smile frozen course the face of the victim, a sign of the Joker. Depending on the dose, can discolor skin and hair can turn green, other signs of Clown Prince From Crime. The Joker also uses weapons bearing the signs of a clown, he transforms into deadly weapons, as the pies cyanide or explosives, handles electrical deadly, playing cards sharp where his famous flower planning a stream of acid, or sometimes its venom Joker. Without forgetting the gun where a flag lot "BANG!", Which sometimes act as symbol. In the film "Batman succession: the return of the Joker", the gun is capable of getting the flag (VO only). But the Joker also uses weapons "classics" such as machine guns or knives that disimule under his sleeve. In addition, the Joker is a very little fighting in regard to technology, although it can sometimes be dangerous révèler body to body. It is immune against the effects of its own venom Joker, but also by extension against other toxic gases of the same type: the poison of Epouvantail is thus not affect him.
Personality
A psychiatrist argued that the Joker has a "super-mental balance". In fact, she explains that the Joker has no personality, for that to find in the world where he lives, he has to reinvent itself every day, via clown blagueur example of the serial killer completely mad, hence its unpredictable side. In addition, he knows himself that he is crazy but think it is sunk. The Joker is very cunning and capable of handling a lot of people at will, especially Arkham guards. Without knowing the identity of Batman, Joker knows his weaknesses and he managed to get an idea of psychology Batman.Il knows, for example, that a Batman endured enormous suffering to become what it is, that it was also a "bad day" which was transformed. The Joker is also very strong with regard to the psychological torture: he perverted Quinnzel Harley, who was to become his companion, he failed make crazy Jim Gordon, and he doubted more than once on Batman's mental health.
Biography alternative
In the Batman of Tim Burton, the Joker is known as Jack Napier. He is the author of the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. It is also the rival of his boss Grissom, since it has a romantic liaison with the girlfriend of the latter; Grissom tends trap Jack Napier by sending, and the men of the latter whose faithful Bob, to plant chemicals Axis Chemicals. In visiting the factory, Jack Napier faces Batman, who fell despite him in a vat of acid, causing his physical deformity. Survivors of accuracy in his bath toxic, it is to operate and becomes the Joker.
