Contrepeterie
The contrepeterie (sometimes called antistrophe) is a pun which is to swap some phonemes or certain syllables of a sentence, to get a new sentence, often with a comical sense, even grivois. You can also say that this is "the art of sounds that shift debit our mouth", the definition itself containing two contrepèteries.

Example: "My uncle loses courage to clusters of patent" becomes a rotational p and m, "My uncle loses courage to bait my aunt.

The newspaper Le Canard enchaîné is famous for his weekly contrepèteries selection in the section entitled On Album of the Countess created by Yvan Audouard, taken by Henri Monier, Luc Etienne (who was Regent of the College Astropétique 'Pataphysics) then taken over by Joel Martin.

It is customary that never gives a solution contrepèterie everyone to find itself. Doing it as the beginning of this paragraph would be incorporated a very serious lack of taste. Forty years later, the Burgundian Stephen Tabourot, Mr. Accords, publishes Bigarrures and keys, the first book containing an article dealing exclusively with the subject. It includes the first reference to the term "contrepéterie" previously designated by the designations "antistrophe" or "equivocation"

Twentieth century
We can not find a trace referring to the written contrepet for several centuries until the release of confidential Treasury equivocal, antistrophes and contrepéteries of Jacques Oncial in 1909, the first treaty to be fully devoted; oral tradition has enabled this art d 'reach us, for our greatest happiness! These include the publication in 1924 of PTO, a collection of jokes identified by J.-W. It seems that in 1934 one of the pillars of literature contrapétique: Contrepèteries of La Redoute. Louis Perceau are compiled and sorted hundreds of contrepèteries succulent from oral tradition as well as its own composition. It is in this book that you can find many classics such as "The noodles cook the cane juice," which opens the way to fanfare. In 1951, the weekly Le Canard enchaîné actively contributes to the popularity of the contrepèterie through Henri Monier who created the first - and so far only - category specifically devoted to it: On the Album of the Countess. A few years later one of the secretaries of the Countess publishes the second major work such as: "The art of contrepet" Luc Etienne in 1957, whose subtitle is "Little Treaty to use to resolve Amateurs the proposed Contrepèteries and invent new ". In addition to introducing the term "contrepet," this book really give him his letters of nobility by proposing a methodical study and relevant, in addition to numerous examples including the famous novel "I leave you in choosing the date."

The contrepeterie in literary history

* Robert Desnos wrote a number in the section on Rrose Sélavy gathering Corps and property, often giving solution:
o "In a temple stucco pastor of apple juice distillait psalms. "
o "Rrose Sélavy familiar with the merchant salt"

The first collection of contrepèteries is the rare "Treasury equivocal, antistrophes and contrepéteries" Jacques Oncial, published in 1909 by some 300 copies. Then in 1934 "La Redoute of contrepèteries" Louis Perceau which lists hundreds, many times from a work by Jacques Oncial. "On the Album of the Countess," set up after the war in Le Canard enchaîné, has also played an important role in the dissemination of this art to shift the sounds. He published a poem a day which presented two levels of reading. Here is the first quatrain:

"The tribute to their environment than poets
A woman always disappointed offer ardent
Flatte certainly the goal but n'apaise the quest:
The wait has pleasures that we do a moment."

The contrepeterie on Radio London
Radio London, sent the resistance messages, various sentences, meaning agreed.

Colonel Remy, eminent personality of Free France, says that before choosing such coded phrases to read on Radio London to warn the Resistance, he found himself being with his friends in possession of La Redoute contrepeteries.

They had the idea to use this book. And they were a joy when they heard the charming speakerine of the British radio read carefully neutral tone and diction perfect sentences, albeit within the meaning coded agreed, but that would have been ashamed if she had known what they could mean as contrepeteries.

Some contrepeteries

Louis Perceau
Louis Perceau once wrote a reference book on the genre: "Contrepeteries of La Redoute." "You've read Perceau" is a phrase we like to say between insiders.

Luc Etienne
Comtesse du Canard for twenty-seven years. Luc Etienne became a specialist of this art, while admitting having read Perceau. He has written among other works ( "The method Mimile", "The Art of drawers charade") an "Art of contrepet" which is still reference today, and which contains passages quite worked as speech a tenant containing the following sentences:

"She was afraid of my word window:
Janitors do not like to be awakened abruptly.
But she insisted aspire my term,
I laissai work my bile and felt hated me.
A kind of rage I took the place of verve "

It ends with:

"She told me:" After this marc, should be a good dinette. "

It also gives advice: just as the charm of crosswords is to give definitions not trivial, we must once contrepet found him find a short introduction also appropriate for the innocent phrase basis that at its option sulphurous. Jacques Antel
True disciple of Luc Etienne, Jacques Antel regent is the chair of contrepet College 'Pataphysics since April 20, 2000. He is the author of the classic "All my believed" with more than 500 contrepèteries novel (with the notable exception of those constituting the title). His specialty was hunting contrepèteries involuntary, as in his books' titles filled "and" Those whom the muse lives "respectively addressing the journalistic articles and French literature.

Joel Martin
Successor Luc Etienne under Comtesse du Canard, Joel Martin is the author of numerous publications all over contrepétillantes some than others, including "The bible of contrepet", "The Dictionary of the contrepèterie" and, more recently, a "What I know" about the contrepeterie.

Laurent Gerra & Jean-Jacques Peroni

Armelle Finard
Armelle Finard is the author of several collections of contrepeteries in recent years. Joel Martin wondered, in relation to one of his books, "if the publisher bêle before Armande" or "if Finard has a big payroll"

Contrepeterie British spoonerism
The spoonerism is not as systematically grivois that is the contrepeterie French. Several spoonerisms are in the works of Shakespeare.

The word spoonerism comes from Reverend William Archibald Spooner (1844-1930) which was often, voluntarily or not, in his sermons.
